Coffee and the Environment
Coffee brings people together, but the way coffee is grown can also place pressure on the environment. Coffee production can contribute to deforestation, chemical use, monoculture farming, and declining soil health. At the same time, coffee is fragile and increasingly vulnerable to climate change.
Why We Care
Part of why we are in coffee is to help change those circumstances and support a more sustainable livelihood for everyone involved. Coffee has the potential to bring people together while also creating positive change for the people and places behind every cup.
Our Approach
From our product to how we create relationships, we are looking for new ways to be more sustainable. In our operations, and to align with our mission and values, we take a thoughtful approach and focus on being responsible by reducing waste and emissions.
We do this through partnering with farmers who use traditional farming practices, reusing packaging, composting coffee grounds and chaff, and sourcing locally when possible.
What We Are Working Toward
We are building systems that make our impact measurable and transparent. This may include tracking how much coffee waste is composted, how many bags are reused, how much packaging is reduced, and how much money is donated through our environmental impact fund.
Environmental Impact Fund
Our impact extends to coffee-growing communities, as well as the local communities where we operate. Through our environmental impact fund, we invest $1 from every bag sold to partner with nonprofit organizations that support long-term efforts connected to conservation, research, climate resilience, and the future of coffee.
